Perrot State Park (pronounced Pear-oh) offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Mississippi River — but you’ll have to earn them. Here, the river narrows to just a half-mile wide, pressed right up against dramatic bluffs that rise more than 250 feet.

Hiking the main loop means tackling those climbs several times, but the reward is worth it. For something easier, try the Wilber Loop. Just beyond the park, you’ll find the Great River State Trail, a scenic rail-bed route perfect for biking, and the charming village of Trempealeau.

Stop by the Trempealeau Hotel for great food, live summer concerts, and a lively local atmosphere. While in town, the Army Corps of Engineers’ lock and dam offers a fascinating spot to watch river barges navigate the channel.

Perrot also provides adaptive equipment, including specialized kayaks, so visitors of all abilities can enjoy the water. Pets are welcome in Wisconsin State Parks as long as they are leashed and under control, though some areas may be restricted. Visit the website for full details before you go.

Show off your selfie skills! Find a selfie stand located on the boardwalk overlooking Trempealeau Bay near the Black Walnut Trail and stop for a fun photo. Share yours with us on Instagram using #ScenicWisconsin.
