Newport State Park

Newport State Park offers a wilderness escape with 2,370 acres of forest and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Visitors can explore 30 miles of hiking trails and enjoy backpack camping. Experience the fully accessible Fern Trail, which features interpretive, engaging panels. Guests with visual impairments can check out a "Discovery Pen" at the visitor center to use as an audio guide along the trail. Pets are welcome but must be kept leashed and under control.

Due to its location on the Door Peninsula, Newport was awarded International Dark Sky Park status in 2017 for its exceptionally dark, protected nocturnal environment, making it an ideal spot for stargazing. Visitors are encouraged to arrive during the day to familiarize themselves with the terrain, pick up a map, and grab a Dark Sky Park brochure.
