Governor Knowles State Forest in northwestern Wisconsin offers 32,500 acres of outdoor adventure along the scenic St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, paddling, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing across rolling hills, river valleys, and forested trails.

The forest features several developed campgrounds, group sites, and primitive backpacking options, along with extensive trail systems for year-round recreation. Brandt Pines and Trade River trails provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding in warmer months and groomed cross-country ski routes in winter. Snowmobile and winter ATV trails connect the forest to the broader Burnett and Polk County trail networks, making Governor Knowles a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
